Spotlight on Jennifer Shahade, Author, Chess Expert and Friend of ASAP
Longtime ASAP collaborator and supporter Jennifer Shahade recently published a chess strategy manifesto called Play Like a Girl! The book features advice and tactics from some of the greatest women chess champions of all time. Shahade, a two-time U.S. women’s chess champion herself, said she hopes that the book will inspire young women to pursue chess excellence. She doesn’t only write about her passion to inspire young ladies, she also lives it, providing mentorship to girls in ASAP’s Philadelphia Youth Chess Challenge through the 9Queens Chess Academies, which she founded. She also donates her time doing chess simuls at ASAP tournaments, competing against up to 20 Chess Challenge students at one time. She is a good friend to ASAP and the scholastic chess community!
